At Wednesday’s South East Ipswich Area Committee I once again raised the matter of the Maryon Road chicane with our County Councillor. She confirmed that she had not yet decided what to do about it. Eight weeks after my original letter and with public opinion so clearly in favour of its removal her indecision is deeply frustrating for Gainsborough residents.
In just a few weeks Suffolk County Council are closing Maryon Road for resurfacing works. This is a golden opportunity for the County to do a proper job – remove the chicane and sort out the persistent flooding issues all at the same time.
Suffolk County Council are planning to ban roadworks on Maryon Road for two years after resurfacing is complete. With this in mind I have written to Cllr Harsant urging her to seize the moment and make a quick decision to remove the chicane next month before this window of opportunity closes on us.
