I’m so excited that I can now share the Council’s plans for a massive upgrade to the Landseer Park play area, an amenity that is badly needed in our community.

Councillor Sheila Handley and I have been driving forward this important project for Gainsborough, through the challenges of securing funding, and are delighted that it is now this close to implementation.

Labour-run Ipswich Borough Council will invest around £150,000 in the new play area and have partnered with Scandinavian firm Kompan to deliver what promises to be one of the the coolest, most modern play zones in Ipswich.

The new play area will include equipment and design features that make it accessible for disabled kids or those with special educational needs, enabling them to play alongside others in an inclusive way. At the same time it has everything you would expect from a traditional playground – swings, a slide a roundabout and a big climbing dome.

Our parks team intend to have the new play area up and running in spring 2022 and I believe it will quickly become the pride of Gainsborough.

The full plans can be downloaded here.

Footnote: I know many families are eagerly awaiting news on the other big project we are working on – the redevelopment of the Diesco site on Hawke Road which will bring new Council homes to Gainsborough for the first time in decades, and with it the renewal of the play area there. More news on this soon.
