Councillor Martin Cook Gainsborough ward, Ipswich Borough Council
Congratulations to Lynne Mortimer who has been elected as Gainsborough ward’s newest councillor. Lynne joins me on the Labour team and takes the place of Sheila Handley who stood down at the end of her term of office. Her term of office will run for four years to May 2026. Result:
- Labour (Lynne Mortimer) 1,061
- Conservative 793
- Green 135
- Liberal Democrats 53
Turnout was 32.97%
Elsewhere in Ipswich, Labour gained the neighbouring seat of Holywells and Stoke Park from the Tories. Labour retains control of Ipswich Borough Council with 32 of 48 seats. The Conservatives have 12 seats, Liberal Democrats have three and Independents one.
