Today I visited the Diesco site on Hawke Road with fellow Ipswich Borough Councillor, and Housing Portfolio Holder, Neil MacDonald.
We were delighted to see that demolition of the old industrial units is not complete and the site is cleared ready for the construction the first new Council homes in Gainsborough in a generation.
The new homes will be built by Ipswich Borough Council’s housing company, Handford Homes, and will be funded by the rents paid by the tenants who ultimately move in. The new properties will be for affordable rent and will be reserved for people with a connection with Ipswich.
As part of the project the play area on Hawke Road will be completely renewed, providing a benefit for everyone on Greenwich.
The next step is to apply for planning permisson for the development.
